About the role#
The Safety Intern provides support to Ameren business segments to help reduce injuries and illnesses, with a specific focus on soft-tissue and ergonomic risk reduction. You will use scientific techniques and problem-solving skills to ensure that the design of systems, tasks, equipment, and facilities provides a safe and healthy environment for co-workers. This is a full-time position for the Winter 2027 term, running from January through August 2027.
What you'll do#
- Analyze soft tissue injury records to identify trends for targeted analysis and interventions.
- Assess the effect of work environments on co-workers and analyze interactions between employees and machinery or equipment.
- Identify potential improvements and assist with their implementation.
- Offer information, advice, and recommendations to the Safety department.
- Compile and present professional information in both written reports and verbal presentations.
- Liaise with other professionals in Ameren Safety, health specialists, and designers.
- Assist in the investigation of soft tissue injuries and illnesses.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in safety, industrial hygiene, or ergonomics in an accredited program with a GPA of 2.5 or above.
- Working knowledge of OSHA and other regulatory agency standards.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- A valid driver's license and a vehicle.
- Proficiency with MS Office is preferred.
- Ability to work with direct supervision and participate in a geographically dispersed team environment.

- Work Modality: On-site.
- This role involves working in both office and field environments.
- You may be required to work occasional overtime, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, and may need to travel overnight. This includes providing support during outages, storms, or other emergencies.
