About the role#
Ameren Illinois is looking for a Meteorology Intern to join the Crisis Management team in Peoria. This role offers experience in applying meteorological principles to the electric utility industry. You will work with professionals in emergency response and utility operations to understand how weather data informs decision-making and storm response.
What you'll do#
- Monitor daily weather forecasts, watches, warnings, and advisories that might affect utility operations.
- Prepare daily weather briefings, storm outlooks, and situational awareness reports.
- Analyze forecast models, radar imagery, and meteorological data to identify operational impacts.
- Correlate weather information with operational and outage data.
- Help improve weather intelligence capabilities within the Crisis Management Dashboard and Athena AI platform.
- Research emerging weather technologies and decision-support resources.
- Participate in training, exercises, and after-action reviews.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a bachelor's or master's degree program in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, Climatology, Geography, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or Emergency Management.
- A basic understanding of weather forecasting principles and meteorological analysis.
- Familiarity with National Weather Service products, radar imagery, and forecast data.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, specifically Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
