About the role#
This internship supports the Missile Defense Agency on the IRES contract. You will work with the IRES Data Science team to improve data integrity and quality. This role is designed for a university junior or senior and lasts for 9 months. You will receive mentorship from senior data professionals while gaining experience with enterprise-level data architecture.
What you'll do#
- Monitor data pipelines to ensure consistent performance.
- Assist the team with analytical reporting.
- Streamline day-to-day data operations to maintain accuracy and reliability.
- Communicate technical concepts clearly to team members.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a Junior or Senior in a Bachelor degree program for Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, Statistics, or a related field.
- Ability to work a part-time schedule of up to 20 hours per week during the academic semester.
- Foundational knowledge of SQL and relational databases.
- Basic proficiency in a scripting language like Python or R.
- Familiarity with Excel for data review.
- Ability to obtain or hold an active DoW Secret Security Clearance.
- Experience with data cleaning, ETL processes, or database management from academic projects, hackathons, or previous internships.
- Exposure to version control systems like Git or data visualization tools like Tableau or PowerBI.
- Conceptual understanding of cloud environments such as AWS or Azure.
- Strong interest in data governance and quality assurance.

- Location: Schriever Space Force Base, Colorado Springs, CO.
- Modality: On-site.
- Schedule: Part-time, up to 20 hours per week.
- Travel: Up to 10% of the time.
