About the role#
As a High Level Synthesis Engineer Intern at Altera, you will join our team in Toronto to work on compiler technologies that translate high-level code into hardware implementations. You will work alongside experienced engineers to develop infrastructure and improve compilation flows for FPGA and SoC technologies, supporting innovation in areas like AI and cloud computing.
What you'll do#
- Assist in the development and maintenance of HLS compiler infrastructure.
- Implement compiler passes and code transformations to optimize high-level code for hardware synthesis.
- Analyze and improve the compilation flow from C/C++ to hardware description languages.
- Research compiler technology for AI computation workloads.
- Integrate and test new features, focusing on performance and resource optimization.
- Debug and validate compiler outputs.
- Document your work and contribute to internal knowledge bases.
What you'll need#
- Current pursuit of a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering.
- Academic or project experience with C/C++ programming.
- Familiarity with compiler concepts like parsing, code generation, and optimization.
- Exposure to digital logic design fundamentals and hardware flows such as FPGA or ASIC.
- Eagerness to learn about HLS compilers and hardware synthesis.
- Good analytical, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Experience with version control systems like Git.
- Preferred: Coursework or internship experience in compiler development, familiarity with MLIR, LLVM, or Clang, exposure to HLS tools, and basic understanding of Verilog or VHDL.
