About the role#
We are looking for a Firmware Engineer Intern to join our ODSP PHY software team in Ottawa for the Winter 2027 term. You will work on embedded software for our networking PAM4 DSPs used in data center optical modules. This is a full-time, paid position where you will contribute to features for our cloud customers.
What you'll do#
- Write embedded C firmware to control complex DSP hardware.
- Build C and Python test utilities, GUIs, and simulation infrastructure.
- Manage features from initial concept through design, review, implementation, and customer release.
- Troubleshoot technical issues by collaborating with hardware and software teams and tracking progress in Jira.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a BS program for Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with at least one year of relevant coursework.
- Strong programming skills in C and Python.
- Proficiency with git, Linux, makefiles, gdb, bash, and common IDEs.
- Knowledge of the software development lifecycle, including Jira, SCM, code reviews, and continuous integration.
- Understanding of computer architecture, processor interaction with peripherals, and networking fundamentals from the OSI model.
- Experience with MCU embedded environments and AI-assisted development tools.
- Strong problem-solving skills and clear verbal and written communication in English.

- Compensation: 32 to 43 CAD per hour.
