Software Engineer Intern - C++

About the role#

As a Software Engineer Intern at Akuna Capital, you will work on high-performance, multithreaded, and distributed systems that power the firm's core business operations. You will be embedded within a team, collaborating with Quant and Trading groups to address requirements and implement solutions. Over the course of the internship, you will participate in projects ranging from initial ideation and design to final delivery and maintenance.

What you'll do#

• Build, maintain, and scale low-latency technologies, including application frameworks and trading strategies.
• Add functionality to existing systems and implement new componentry.
• Solve complex coding problems and contribute to system reliability and performance.
• Engage with Quant and Trading teams to define requirements and workshop technical solutions.
• Experiment with new technologies and patterns to improve system efficiency and flexibility.

What you'll need#

• Current pursuit of a bachelor’s, master’s, or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or an equivalent technical field.
• Expected graduation date by August 2028.
• Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
• Proficiency in modern C++ (C++20 or later; C++23 preferred).
• Ability to react quickly and effectively to rapidly changing market conditions.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.
• Experience or familiarity with several of the following: distributed systems, parallel processing, asynchronous architectures, networking/protocol encoding, lock-free data structures, performance profiling, Python/shell scripting, and debugging tools like GDB or Valgrind.
