About the role#
This Student Nurse Extern position is a paid summer internship for nursing students. You will gain hands-on clinical experience at Atrium Health Anson in Wadesboro, North Carolina. This role is full-time and requires on-site attendance during the summer of 2027.
What you'll do#
- Support patients with activities of daily living and personal hygiene.
- Take vital signs, height, and weight measurements.
- Feed and ambulate patients based on specific procedures.
- Observe and report changes in patient conditions to the nursing team.
- Orient patients and families to the unit and explain safety measures.
- Maintain clean and orderly patient rooms.
- Manage inventory and stock supply items.
- Assist with clerical tasks, including data entry and maintaining medical records.
- Perform technical tasks such as 12-Lead Electrocardiograms and routine venipuncture.
- Carry out tasks within the scope of Nurse Aide I and Nurse Aide II requirements.
What you'll need#
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Current enrollment in good standing in a Registered Nurse academic program.
- Successful completion of your Junior year or equivalent by the start of the program.
- Current listing on the DFS Nurse Aide Registry as a Nurse Aide I and Nurse Aide II.
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support certification.
- Ability to speak and understand English clearly.
- Manual and finger dexterity.
- Ability to pass a physical abilities test.
- Ability to lift and support 35 pounds for patient handling and equipment tasks.
