About the role#
This internship provides practical work experience within the Finance, Accounting, and Revenue Cycle departments at Advocate Health. You will support the alignment of business objectives across various units, including system budgeting, general accounting, financial planning, internal audit, and treasury. This is a full-time, paid summer position running from May 31, 2027, to August 6, 2027.
What you'll do#
- Develop automated processes in Excel to reduce manual tasks.
- Review and investigate charge discrepancies and process necessary adjustments for hospital and professional charges.
- Prepare financial and statistical analysis, including data extraction to measure performance and identify trends.
- Participate in the development of cost accounting and productivity standards, as well as performing variance analysis.
- Assist in maintaining procedural prices using market analysis and reimbursement data.
- Prepare and monitor operating and capital budgets.
- Apply government and managed care payment regulations to financial activities.
- Perform charge reconciliation and assist with revenue cycle projects like cash posting and insurance follow-up.
- Support internal financial reporting through research and investigation.
- Handle administrative duties and support staff during meetings.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior in a Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or Business Analytics program as of Fall 2027.
- A minimum GPA of 2.5.
- Strong proficiency in Excel and general computer skills.
- Effective communication, multitasking, and prioritization skills.
- A high level of attention to detail and a demonstrated ability to complete tasks.
- Integrity, maturity, dependability, and a positive attitude.
Location & details#
- This is a remote position. You must reside in one of the following states: AL, AK, AR, AZ, DE, FL, GA, IA, ID, IL, IN, LA, KS, KY, ME, MI, MO, MS, MT, NC, ND, NE, NH, NM, NV, OH, OK, PA, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, VA, WI, WV, or WY.
- The schedule is 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, during standard business hours.
