About the role#
This internship focuses on building the AI layer for business systems. You will work on agents, tools, and data connectors to help our operations run more effectively. This position is based in Cary, North Carolina, and requires a mix of on-site work during the summer and a commitment to continue part-time remotely for six months afterward.
What you'll do#
- Build AI agents, tools, and data connectors using Python.
- Read data from business systems through APIs and SQL.
- Design agent flows in LangGraph or similar frameworks, ensuring human approval for any system interaction.
- Determine the right retrieval method for specific questions, such as database queries, API calls, or document searches.
- Build evaluation sets to measure and improve the accuracy of AI outputs.
- Ship small pieces of work every week and demo them to the team and business users.
- Use AI coding assistants to support your work while being able to explain the code you commit.
- Document your builds and findings for future reference.
What you'll need#
- Currently enrolled in a master's program, or in the third or fourth year of a bachelor's program, in computer science, mathematics, data science, or industrial engineering. Master's students are preferred.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States without company sponsorship.
- Ability to work part-time remotely for six months following the summer internship.
- Reliable transportation to the Cary, North Carolina worksite.
- Proven experience with Python projects that include git and tests.
- Hands-on experience with LLMs, including model APIs, tool calling, and structured outputs.
- Proficiency in SQL, specifically with joins across multiple tables.
- Working knowledge of REST APIs and JSON.
- Experience with the following is valued but not required: LangGraph, embeddings, vector search, RAG, MCP, knowledge graphs like Neo4j, cloud platforms, or exposure to supply chain, manufacturing, or ERP concepts.
