About the role#
As a Quality & Manufacturing Intern, you will work within the Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (AME) or Manufacturing Quality Engineering (MQE) teams. You will contribute to the design, validation, and maintenance of assembly lines for Top Level Assemblies (TLAs) and ensure our manufacturing processes meet strict quality and reliability standards. This role involves collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to support product lifecycles from prototyping to mass production.
What you'll do#
- Assist with Design for X conversations for Zipline TLAs and sub-assemblies.
- Support the planning, budgeting, procurement, and commissioning of assembly lines and equipment for product validation builds and mass production.
- Develop and maintain process documentation, including manufacturing process flows, process FMEA, work instructions, and training plans.
- Design fixtures for assembly and inspection while proposing automation strategies.
- Establish and monitor assembly line performance KPIs such as first-pass yield, cost of quality, and on-time delivery.
- Conduct root cause analysis on production problems and implement corrective actions.
- Assist in continuous improvement projects to enhance line performance and reduce costs.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a graduate or undergraduate degree program in Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Statistics, or Mathematics.
- Completion of at least the second year of undergraduate studies.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD software, with a preference for NX.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, including GD&T.
- Knowledge of traditional and non-traditional manufacturing processes like machining, injection molding, sheet metal stamping, 3D printing, and PCBA manufacturing.
- Familiarity with Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP).
- Understanding of problem-solving frameworks and root cause analysis techniques.
