About the role#
As Zipline iterates on hardware, we need new tools to help technicians work safely and efficiently. You will join the Service Tooling and Processes team to design, validate, and field these tools. You will work closely with maintenance teams to identify pain points and build solutions. Because our team operates out of a high-volume test facility, you will see your designs used immediately, allowing for rapid feedback and iteration. Once perfected, these tools become part of our operational toolkits across the company.
What you'll do#
- Work with Hardware and Operations teams to understand maintenance requirements.
- Design and prototype tools for drone and ground system maintenance.
- Use hand and machine tools to build initial units.
- Gather operational feedback on your designs and iterate quickly.
- Partner with Operations leadership to evaluate production-ready versions of your designs.
- Create usage documentation and lead training sessions as your tools move into operation.
What you'll need#
- Strong grasp of mechanical design fundamentals, including statics, dynamics, and material properties.
- Proficiency with CAD software such as NX, Solidworks, or Fusion.
- Hands-on prototyping experience with 3D printing, fabrication, welding, soldering, or assembly.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work across teams.
- A focus on understanding how your designs perform in real-world conditions.
- Ability to work on-site at our Esparto facility.
- Enrollment in a degree program in Mechanical, Industrial, Aerospace, or Electrical Engineering.
Location & details#
