About the role#
As Zipline iterates on hardware, we need new tools to help technicians work safely and efficiently. You will join the Service Tooling and Processes team at our high-volume test facility. Your work involves identifying maintenance pain points, designing solutions, and seeing those designs move into active use across our operations. You will work on-site, receiving immediate feedback from the teams using your tools.
What you'll do#
- Collaborate with Hardware and Operations teams to identify requirements.
- Design and prototype tools for drone and ground system maintenance.
- Use hand and machine tools to build initial units.
- Gather feedback from the field to iterate on your designs.
- Partner with Operations leadership to evaluate production designs.
- Write usage documentation and lead training sessions for new tools.
What you'll need#
- A strong grasp of mechanical design fundamentals like statics, dynamics, and material properties.
- Proficiency with CAD software such as NX, Solidworks, or Fusion.
- Hands-on experience with prototyping methods like 3D printing, fabrication, welding, soldering, or assembly.
- Strong communication skills to work across different teams.
- An obsessive focus on the customer and how designs perform in the real world.

- Location: Esparto, California.
- Term: Winter 2027 (January 2027 to April 2027).
- Modality: Full-time, on-site.
- Compensation: $37 per hour.
