    About the role#

    As Zipline iterates on hardware, we need new tools to help technicians work safely and efficiently. You will join the Service Tooling and Processes team at our high-volume test facility. Your work involves identifying maintenance pain points, designing solutions, and seeing those designs move into active use across our operations. You will work on-site, receiving immediate feedback from the teams using your tools.

    What you'll do#

    • Collaborate with Hardware and Operations teams to identify requirements.
    • Design and prototype tools for drone and ground system maintenance.
    • Use hand and machine tools to build initial units.
    • Gather feedback from the field to iterate on your designs.
    • Partner with Operations leadership to evaluate production designs.
    • Write usage documentation and lead training sessions for new tools.

    What you'll need#

    • A strong grasp of mechanical design fundamentals like statics, dynamics, and material properties.
    • Proficiency with CAD software such as NX, Solidworks, or Fusion.
    • Hands-on experience with prototyping methods like 3D printing, fabrication, welding, soldering, or assembly.
    • Strong communication skills to work across different teams.
    • An obsessive focus on the customer and how designs perform in the real world.

    • Location: Esparto, California.
    • Term: Winter 2027 (January 2027 to April 2027).
    • Modality: Full-time, on-site.
    • Compensation: $37 per hour.
    • Note: We are unable to provide visa sponsorship for this position.
