About the role#
As a Manufacturing Engineering Intern at Wheatland Tube, you will support projects to improve operational efficiency, productivity, and product quality. You will work alongside the Department Manager and cross-functional teams to assist with facility layout planning, process flow optimization, and continuous improvement initiatives. This is a full-time, on-site role based in our Rochelle, Illinois facility.
What you'll do#
- Plan and design plant layouts using CAD tools and drafting software.
- Analyze workflows and material movement to create scale drawings.
- Establish labor standards through work measurement programs and time study analysis.
- Collect and analyze operational data to improve process effectiveness.
- Lead or assist in continuous improvement projects.
- Develop and refine manufacturing processes, equipment functionality, and standard methods.
- Collaborate with teams to identify root causes of net yield loss.
- Maintain documentation including work instructions, routings, and blueprints.
- Analyze prime net yield and other performance indicators.
- Conduct experiments to optimize operations and report findings.
- Promote and follow healthy and safe work practices.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a bachelor degree program for Industrial, Manufacturing, or Mechanical Engineering.
- At least one academic year remaining before graduation.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Experience with CAD or drafting software like AutoCAD or SolidWorks is a plus.
- Availability to travel for the Internship Summit.
