About the role#
This internship offers the chance to work alongside engineers and industry professionals at X-energy. You will contribute to projects related to your studies while receiving guidance from experienced team members. This is a pipeline position for Summer 2027, and we review applications on a rolling basis as team needs are confirmed.
What you'll do#
- Define the fire and life safety basis for manufacturing and support operations.
- Implement and facilitate fire protection programs and procedures.
- Monitor the effectiveness of safety-related fire protection systems and equipment.
- Develop, review, and revise fire hazard analysis documents and compliance plans.
- Run computer codes and models to support fire protection calculations.
- Participate in process hazards analysis and design reviews.
- Consult with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams on fire protection impacts.
- Conduct inspections, walk-downs, and audits to ensure safety compliance.
- Create and deliver fire protection training and operator aids.
- Support the emergency response team.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in or recent completion of a degree in fire protection engineering, fire science, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, or a closely related field from an ABET-accredited institution.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- A collaborative mindset, curiosity, and initiative.
- At least one letter of recommendation from a professor, academic advisor, employer, or professional mentor.
Location & details#
- Location: Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
- Modality: This is a fully on-site position, 5 days per week.
- Term: Summer 2027.
- Compensation: $25 per hour for undergraduate students and $40 per hour for graduate students.
