About the role#
This internship provides an opportunity to support professional teams in the nuclear energy sector. You will work alongside engineers and scientists to contribute to ongoing projects related to your field of study. This is a pipeline position for Summer 2027, and we review applications on a rolling basis as specific team needs are confirmed.
What you'll do#
- Apply systems thinking to solve problems and analyze system interdependencies.
- Assist with systems engineering lifecycle efforts, including requirements management, functional decomposition, and verification and validation.
- Develop and maintain system behavior models using MBSE tools and PLM frameworks.
- Support technical risk identification and value engineering activities like cost analysis.
- Write and review engineering reports and technical documentation.
- Collaborate across engineering disciplines to ensure system integration.
- Conduct research, gather technical data, and present findings to stakeholders.
- Maintain project files and records to ensure quality and traceability.
- Participate in team meetings, design reviews, and brainstorming sessions.
- Perform work according to established quality assurance procedures.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in or recent completion of a degree in industrial engineering, systems engineering, or a related field.
- Knowledge of system lifecycle processes, requirements management, and system design.
- Experience or academic familiarity with MBSE tools and methods, such as Cameo, Capella, SysML, or DOORS.
- Understanding of interface control, configuration management, and technical risk assessment.
- Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite.
- Submission of at least one letter of recommendation from a professor, advisor, or mentor.
Location & details#
- Location: Gaithersburg, Maryland.
- Work modality: Fully on-site, 5 days per week.
- Term: Summer 2027 (anticipated 10-week program).
- Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM ET.
- Compensation: $25 per hour for undergraduates; $40 per hour for graduate students.
