About the role#
This internship supports the Nuclear Criticality Safety team. You will work alongside engineers and scientists to contribute to fuel fabrication projects. This role involves assisting with daily operations and learning from professionals in the field under guided supervision.
What you'll do#
- Support active engineering projects and analyses.
- Assist with day-to-day departmental operations.
- Participate in brainstorming sessions, meetings, and project discussions.
- Contribute ideas to team meetings.
- Organize and maintain project files, documents, and records.
- Conduct research for ongoing initiatives.
- Prepare reports, presentations, and other materials.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in or recent completion of a bachelor's degree in nuclear, mechanical, chemical, or civil engineering.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Curiosity, initiative, and a collaborative mindset.
- Academic or hands-on knowledge in at least one of these areas: using SCALE, MCNP, or other NCS computer codes to demonstrate subcriticality, historical accident analysis, validation methodologies, or safety basis evaluations that identify NCS limits and controls.
- You must submit at least one letter of recommendation from a professor, academic advisor, employer, or professional mentor.
Location & details#
- Location: Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
- Term: Summer 2027 (anticipated 10-week program).
- Work Modality: Fully on-site, 5 days per week.
- Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM ET.
- Compensation: $25 per hour for undergraduate students or $40 per hour for graduate students.
