About the role#
As a Machine Learning Engineer Intern, you will join the team responsible for building and deploying the engine that powers Workday’s intelligent core. You will work alongside engineers and researchers to develop scalable AI and machine learning platforms that support personalized experiences for millions of users. This role focuses on writing production-quality code, running experiments, and working with large datasets to improve model performance.
What you'll do#
- Contribute across the full machine learning lifecycle, from data processing and experimentation to system deployment.
- Apply machine learning and AI techniques, including deep learning and LLM-based approaches like retrieval and prompt tuning.
- Write production-quality code and build scalable components for AI and ML products.
- Build and deploy APIs and microservices using Docker and Kubernetes.
- Design and run evaluations to measure model and system quality to guide future development.
What you'll need#
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master's degree program in Computer Science, Data Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
- Anticipated graduation date between December 2027 and June 2028.
- Less than 12 months of previous professional work experience.
- Experience with software engineering and machine learning concepts through coursework, research, or projects.
- Proficiency in Python or another language used for machine learning and data processing.
- Experience with at least one of the following: Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), Natural Language Processing (NLP), Pandas, PySpark, or AWS.
- Familiarity with AI tooling such as Gemini, Claude, Cursor, or Codex.
- Excellent communication skills and an eagerness to learn.

- Location: Pleasanton, California.
- Term: 12-week, full-time internship for Summer 2027.
- Modality: Hybrid (in-person).
