About the role#
As a Machine Learning Engineer Intern, you will contribute to the intelligent core that powers Workday. You will work alongside experienced engineers to design, build, and deploy machine learning models and large language model applications. This role focuses on writing production-quality code, running experiments, and working with large datasets to improve system performance at scale.
What you'll do#
- Contribute to the full machine learning lifecycle, from data processing and experimentation to deployment.
- Apply machine learning and AI techniques, including deep learning and LLM-based approaches like retrieval and prompt tuning.
- Write production-quality code and build scalable components.
- Build and deploy APIs and microservices using Docker and Kubernetes.
- Design and run evaluations to measure model and system quality.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
- Graduation date between December 2027 and June 2028.
- Less than 12 months of previous professional work experience.
- Experience with software engineering and machine learning concepts through coursework, research, or projects.
- Proficiency in Python or another language used for machine learning and data processing.
- Experience with one or more of the following: RAG, NLP, Pandas, PySpark, or AWS.
- Familiarity with AI tooling such as Gemini, Claude, Cursor, or Codex.
- Interest in LLM-based approaches, including embeddings and model evaluation.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Location & details#
- Modality: Hybrid.
- Vancouver, BC: Full-time, 6-month internship from February 2027 to August 2027.
- Toronto, ON: Full-time, 12-week internship from May 2027 to August 2027.
- Compensation: This is a paid internship.
- Note: Visa sponsorship is not available for this role.
