About the role#
This internship focuses on advancing AI systems for integrity and safety. You will join a team developing machine learning solutions to detect harm and bad actors across our platforms. The work involves moving beyond simple classifiers toward agentic AI systems that reason over entities, content, and history to enforce policies. You will own a research problem from initial framing through to experimentation and publication.
What you'll do#
- Perform research to improve the technology behind trustworthy and efficient AI systems.
- Develop methods for training, distilling, and updating large language and multimodal models that make policy decisions.
- Design experiments and evaluations using human labels, LLM judges, and offline replays.
- Analyze and improve the efficiency, robustness, and reliability of models used in production.
- Collaborate with researchers, engineers, and policy partners to share progress and results.
- Publish research findings and contribute to work that applies directly to our products.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Ph.D. program in Computer Science, AI, Machine Learning, NLP, Computer Vision, Statistics, or a related field.
- Intent to return to your degree program after the internship.
- Experience with Python and deep learning frameworks like PyTorch.
- Research experience in machine learning, specifically in training or fine-tuning models and designing evaluations.
- Familiarity with large language models and AI-native development.
- A track record of research achievements, such as publications at venues like NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, ACL, or EMNLP.
- Experience or project work in areas such as continual learning, knowledge distillation, LLM post-training, uncertainty estimation, or multimodal modeling.
- Ability to frame real-world problems as rigorous machine learning tasks and drive iterations through analysis.
- Must obtain and maintain work authorization in the country of employment.
