About the role#
The Shop Intern role provides hands-on experience in a construction shop environment. You will assist the mechanic team with general maintenance, cleaning, and entry-level support tasks. This is a part-time position designed for students who want to learn shop operations and basic mechanical maintenance.
What you'll do#
- Report to work on time wearing proper PPE.
- Clean shop floors, empty trash, and maintain bathrooms.
- Organize the parts room and restock items.
- Operate a ride-on sweeper to clean the parking lot.
- Power wash equipment and detail fleet trucks or cabs.
- Fuel equipment and handle snow removal or salting as needed.
- Perform maintenance tasks like changing light bulbs.
- Drive company vehicles to pick up parts.
- Assist mechanics with oil changes, filter replacements, and fluid checks.
- Fetch tools and equipment for mechanics.
- Help dismantle and reassemble equipment using hand tools.
- Observe and learn basic diagnostic and repair procedures.
- Follow all safety policies and keep the work area organized.
What you'll need#
- You must be at least 18 years old.
- A valid driver license and reliable transportation.
- An interest in learning mechanical and shop maintenance skills.
- Ability to work safely near heavy machinery.
- Willingness to learn from others and adapt to changing priorities.
- Strong personal responsibility and communication skills.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical labor.
- Experience with tools is a plus.
- Education or work-related credentials from a secondary or post-secondary system are preferred.
