About the role#
Western National Insurance is hiring a Claims Intern for our Summer 2027 program. You will join our Auto, Property, and Workers' Compensation departments to gain practical experience in the insurance industry. This role involves working directly with our claims teams on data collection, entry, and resolution projects.
What you'll do#
- Research and confirm coverage for property and casualty claims.
- Handle claim documentation, recordkeeping, and data reporting.
- Investigate claims using communication, witness information, online research, medical records, and vendor services.
- Update data fields in designated systems and reporting platforms.
- Assess compensability based on your investigations.
- Review and pay estimates, medical bills, and vendor bills.
- Set and modify reserves on a claim.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts to learn claims and compliance processes.
- Work with underwriters, loss control, insureds, and agents to provide customer service.
- Attend off-site tasks such as inspections, depositions, court appearances, and mediations.
- Shadow other positions to explore different career paths within the company.
- Assist with various projects as assigned.
What you'll need#
- Completion of at least two years of college is preferred.
- A willingness to help with a variety of tasks.
- Proven time management skills and the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
- Strong customer service and professional communication skills.
- An understanding of technology solutions.
- Ability to work on-site at our corporate office in Edina, MN.
