About the role#
The Technical Operations Engineer Intern supports the technical oversight of various engineered systems at Virginia Space Flight Academy. You will work under supervision to ensure systems operate safely and efficiently. This role involves hands-on fieldwork and collaboration with customers, contractors, and technical staff to maintain operational standards.
What you'll do#
- Support the technical oversight of cryogenic, pneumatic, fuel, electrical, control, hydraulic, structural, HVAC, and water systems.
- Assist with developing system operations, maintenance procedures, engineering work packages, and troubleshooting plans.
- Monitor operational system parameters, including commodity levels, spares, and system configuration control.
- Perform fieldwork on assigned systems and coordinate with internal groups like safety and quality assurance.
- Provide recommendations to improve operating efficiency, safety, and system reliability.
- Develop and maintain technical resources for assigned systems.
- Attend formal training sessions to pursue required certifications.
- Ensure all tasks are completed safely within the allocated budget and schedule.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an associate or bachelor’s degree program in Business Administration, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- A strong general engineering background.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
- Proficiency in applying advanced mathematical concepts like exponents, logarithms, and quadratic equations.
- A valid driver's license.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a NASA credential.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and drug test.
- Experience with pneumatic, cryogenic, or hydraulic systems is preferred.
