About the role#
The Facilities Management Engineering Intern supports the Facilities Directorate in maintaining the health, readiness, and functionality of Virginia Spaceport Authority facilities. This role provides practical experience in facility operations, maintenance, project coordination, and asset management within a complex industrial environment. You will work under general supervision and oversight to support day-to-day activities and assigned projects.
What you'll do#
- Coordinate, track, and document routine and corrective maintenance activities.
- Participate in facility inspections and field activities to identify maintenance needs or safety concerns.
- Assist with planning and tracking facility projects, including schedules, costs, and resources.
- Review facility drawings, specifications, equipment documentation, and procedures.
- Collect, organize, and analyze facility-related data such as work orders, project status, and utility usage.
- Maintain records for inventory, equipment, and projects to support lifecycle management.
- Identify opportunities to improve facility reliability, efficiency, and safety.
- Collaborate with Facilities, Engineering, Operations, Safety, Quality, Security, and Procurement teams.
- Utilize Microsoft Office and internal systems to complete daily assignments.
- Participate in required training to develop an understanding of maintenance practices and safety requirements.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an associate or bachelor's degree program in Engineering, Construction Management, Facilities Management, Architecture, Business, Project Management, Public Administration, Science, or a related technical field.
- Previous experience in facilities, engineering, construction, maintenance, or data analysis is preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, specifically Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, diagrams, and specifications.
- Ability to obtain and maintain eligibility for a NASA credential.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and drug test.
- A valid driver's license for agency business.
