About the role#
The Virginia Space Flight Academy is hiring a Logistics Support Intern for a 17-week paid program. You will work on-site at Wallops Island, Virginia. This role supports the MARS Inventory Control System and involves tracking, storing, and distributing materials for agency operations.
What you'll do#
- Manage the logistics aspect of the MARS Inventory Control System, including database entry and parts tracking.
- Receive incoming materials and equipment, verifying that shipments match requests and documentation.
- Inspect supplies, spares, and repair parts to ensure they meet requirements.
- Organize and maintain certificates of conformance for pad components.
- Evaluate inventory levels and coordinate replenishment with the Materials Manager.
- Oversee the external repair order process, including inspecting returned units.
- Conduct semiannual inventory audits to ensure items are accounted for and stored correctly.
- Distribute materials to the field based on stock requests.
- Investigate inventory discrepancies and resolve issues.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an associate or bachelor degree program in a logistics-related field.
- A valid driver license.
- Knowledge of logistics processes and regulations.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (SharePoint experience is a plus).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage your time and meet deadlines.
- Capacity to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a NASA credential.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and drug test.
