    About the role#

    The Virginia Department of Transportation offers a paid internship program for students interested in public service. This role provides guided work experience in business and related functional areas. You will connect academic theory with practical application while developing technical and self-leadership skills. Depending on business needs and performance, you may have the opportunity to extend this internship into the academic year.

    What you'll do#

    • Provide administrative support services to assigned program areas.
    • Research, compile data, and prepare reports or presentations.
    • Recommend resolutions to administrative or business problems.
    • Assume responsibility for special projects and assignments.
    • Prioritize tasks to meet project deadlines.
    • Perform special duties as assigned.

    What you'll need#

    • Currently enrolled full-time in an Associate’s degree program or higher, with a status of rising sophomore or equivalent.
    • Maintain full-time status of 12 or more credit hours for undergraduates or 9 or more credit hours for graduates before and after the internship.
    • At least 18 years of age by the start of employment.
    • Knowledge of business principles, office policies, and procedures.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Access.
    • Ability to analyze data, interpret regulations, solve problems, and make logical decisions.
    • Effective oral and written communication skills.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • A background in Business, Accounting, or a related field is desired.

    Location & details#

    • This position is located in Salem, Virginia.
    • The role is on-site and full-time.
    • All positions require pre-employment screenings, including a criminal history background check, DMV record check, work history verification, references, a physical, and a drug screen.
