About the role#
Verdantas is seeking a Data Analytics and GIS Intern to join our team in Syracuse, New York. This internship provides hands-on experience supporting environmental consulting projects through the use of geospatial technologies, data analytics, and environmental research. You will work alongside multidisciplinary professionals on projects involving environmental investigations, remediation, natural resource assessments, and site selection studies.
What you'll do#
- Organize, review, and manage environmental and geospatial datasets.
- Support GIS mapping, spatial analysis, and visualization efforts.
- Prepare maps, figures, dashboards, and technical graphics for reports and client deliverables.
- Georeference and digitize historical maps, aerial imagery, and environmental records.
- Analyze environmental and spatial data to identify trends, patterns, and insights.
- Collaborate with environmental scientists, engineers, geologists, and data analysts on project tasks.
- Assist with technical reporting, data management, and project documentation.
- Explore technologies like artificial intelligence, machine learning, and automation to enhance workflows.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Environmental Science, Data Science, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Environmental Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Coursework or experience in GIS, geospatial technologies, environmental data analysis, or spatial statistics.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Demonstrated initiative, curiosity, adaptability, and a willingness to learn.
- Preferred skills include experience with ArcGIS Pro or ArcGIS Online, and familiarity with Python, R, SQL, or Arcade.
