About the role#
The Restoring Promise team is seeking an intern to support the Designed for Dignity project. This role focuses on transforming prison culture and conditions through policy revision, training development, and research. You will gain experience in technical assistance, project management, and critical analysis while helping state departments of corrections implement humane, equitable practices.
What you'll do#
- Support the Designed for Dignity project through agency assessments and trainings.
- Conduct literature reviews and assist with data entry, analysis, and visualization.
- Transcribe interviews and focus groups.
- Assist with the design and creation of presentations and visual materials.
- Write and edit documents, newsletters, and reports.
- Provide administrative and technical support for internal and external meetings, including notetaking.
- Participate in team meetings and learning opportunities related to justice reform.
What you'll need#
- Previous personal or professional experience or exposure to the criminal legal system.
- Interest in fields such as criminal legal reform, correctional services, psychology, social work, or human services.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Zoom.
- Strong communication skills for emailing, notetaking, and drafting internal memos.
- Lived experience as a person directly impacted by the criminal legal system is preferred.
- Relevant academic background in criminal justice, psychology, human resources, or political science.
Location & details#
- Term: Fall 2026.
- Location: Brooklyn, New York.
- Work Modality: Hybrid, with an in-office requirement generally amounting to 10 days per month.
- Status: Full-time, paid internship.
