Intern, Restoring Promise

About the role#

The Restoring Promise team is seeking an intern to support the Designed for Dignity project, which focuses on transforming prison culture and conditions. This role involves assisting with agency assessments, policy reviews, and the development of technical assistance resources. The intern will gain hands-on experience in research, project management, and strategic policy implementation while working with state departments of corrections to foster humane practices.

What you'll do#

• Support the Designed for Dignity project through agency assessments, trainings, and policy reviews.
• Conduct literature reviews and assist with data entry, analysis, and visualization.
• Transcribe interviews and focus groups.
• Assist in the design and creation of presentations, visuals, and reports.
• Provide administrative and technical support for meetings, webinars, and internal team memos.
• Collaborate with colleagues on day-to-day work with site partners, including corrections staff and government leaders.

What you'll need#

• Previous personal or professional experience or exposure to the criminal legal system.
• A demonstrated interest in criminal legal reform, correctional services, psychology, social work, or human services.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Zoom.
• Strong communication skills, including the ability to draft emails, take detailed notes, and write internal memos.
• Preferred: Lived experience as a person directly impacted by the criminal legal system.
• This role is open to current students and non-student candidates pursuing careers in criminal legal reform.

• Location: Brooklyn, New York.
• Term: Fall 2026.
• Modality: Hybrid (generally 10 days per month in-office).
• Compensation: $17.00 - $25.00 per hour.
• Employment Type: Full-time, paid internship.
