About the role#
The Policy Intern supports the Redefining Public Safety team in executing high-level strategies for policy and advocacy. You will gain expertise in best practices for public safety by developing legislative solutions and comprehensive research approaches. This role involves translating complex data into clear formats and assisting with administrative tasks to advance team goals.
What you'll do#
- Conduct qualitative and quantitative research and synthesize findings into actionable insights.
- Translate complex research into digestible formats like fact sheets, policy briefs, and talking points.
- Monitor news, legislative actions, and political events to keep the team informed.
- Attend meetings with stakeholders and government partners to produce meeting debriefs.
- Assist in the development of strategy proposals for state-wide advocacy and community-led public safety initiatives.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Master's Degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Public Administration, or a related field.
- Juris Doctorate or demonstrated commitment to strategy building for social, political, or policy change.
- Experience working in government, a law office, a think tank, or a related field.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to summarize technical information.
- Preferred: Lived experience in the criminal legal system and experience tracking legislation.

- Location: Brooklyn, New York.
- Term: Fall 2026.
- Modality: Hybrid (generally 10 days per month in-office).
- Compensation: $17.00 - $25.00 per hour.
