About the role#
The Civil Construction Internship at Veit offers students a path to learn the responsibilities of a Project Manager and Estimator. You will work under the direction of a mentor who provides support and guidance throughout the program. This role is based in Bismarck, North Dakota, and requires full-time, on-site attendance.
What you'll do#
- Review project plans, specifications, and jobsites to determine the scope of work and prepare accurate estimates.
- Perform both software-based and manual takeoffs for various project aspects.
- Calculate material quantities and movement requirements.
- Solicit quotes from subcontractors and construct bids by adding activities, crews, and equipment.
- Print bid proposals and review final numbers with your supervisor.
- Observe the change order process and attend project meetings.
What you'll need#
- At least one year of education toward a bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Construction Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- A minimum of one summer of construction work experience.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret project plans and specifications.
- Familiarity with construction takeoff, bidding, or estimating software.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to follow instructions.
- A can-do attitude when responding to shifting priorities.

- Location: Bismarck, North Dakota.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Schedule: Full-time, Monday through Friday, 8 to 10-hour days.
- Compensation: This is a paid internship.
