About the role#
The Civil Construction Internship provides students interested in a Project Manager or Estimator career track the opportunity to learn the trade. You will work under the direction of a mentor to develop an understanding of the responsibilities required for these roles. This is a full-time, paid position based in Rogers, Minnesota.
What you'll do#
- Review project plans and specifications to determine the scope of work.
- Visit jobsites before bidding to create accurate estimates.
- Complete takeoffs using software and manual methods.
- Calculate quantities such as square yard, linear feet, and cubic yard to factor in material needs.
- Solicit quotes from subcontractors for bid preparation.
- Construct bids by adding activities, crews, and equipment.
- Create and print bid proposals for review with an estimator or project manager.
- Observe the change order process and attend project meetings.
What you'll need#
- Minimum of one year of education toward a bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Construction Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a similar discipline.
- Experience with the Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to communicate effectively with peers and supervisors.
- Ability to read, interpret, and act on project plans and specifications.
- Ability to respond to shifting priorities.
- At least one summer of construction work experience is strongly preferred.
- Prior experience with construction takeoff, bidding, or estimating software is preferred.

- Location: Rogers, Minnesota.
- Modality: On-site.
- Schedule: Full time, 8 to 10-hour workdays, Monday through Friday.
