About the role#
The Civil Construction Internship offers students a path toward a career as a Project Manager or Estimator. You will work under the direction of a mentor who provides support and guidance as you learn the daily responsibilities of the role. This is a full-time, paid position with a rolling term. Successful completion of the program and quality of work may lead to consideration for full-time employment.
What you'll do#
- Review project plans, specifications, and jobsites to determine the scope of work and create estimates.
- Perform accurate takeoffs using software and manual methods.
- Calculate material quantities including square yards, linear feet, and cubic yards.
- Solicit quotes from subcontractors for bid preparation.
- Construct bids by adding activities, crews, and equipment while adjusting production rates.
- Print and create bid proposals for review with project managers or estimators.
- Observe the change order process and attend project meetings.
What you'll need#
- At least 1 year of education toward a bachelor degree in Construction Management, Construction Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a similar field.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to follow instructions.
- A can-do attitude and the ability to manage shifting priorities.
- At least 1 summer of construction work experience is strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with construction takeoff, bidding, or estimating software is a plus.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret project plans and specifications.
Location & details#
- Location: New Berlin, Wisconsin.
- Modality: On-site.
- Schedule: 8 to 10-hour workdays, Monday through Friday.
