About the role#
University Enterprises, Inc. is hiring an Engineering Student Assistant to work with the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans). This is a part-time, temporary, and non-benefited position. You will work under the supervision of a Senior Transportation Electrical Engineer to assist with contract administration for transportation improvement projects. This role involves both office work and field inspections to help you gain professional experience.
What you'll do#
- Inspect jobsites and maintain accurate documentation of work progress.
- Assist with field inspections of construction projects.
- Prepare daily reports regarding contractor activities.
- Help prepare monthly progress pay estimates.
- Process, file, and maintain project records within the Falcon system.
- Assist with the preparation of contract change orders and responses to requests for information.
- Attend safety meetings and perform general duties related to construction contract administration.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a college student at an accredited institution.
- Major in Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA.
- Enrollment in at least six-semester units or nine quarter units for undergraduate students.
- Ability to communicate clearly in both verbal and written forms.
- Proficiency with personal computers, scanners, and copiers.
Location & details#
- Location: Los Angeles, California.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Compensation: $18.28 - $28.16 per hour.
- Schedule: Flexible hours between 8 AM and 5 PM, Monday through Friday. You may work up to 24 hours per week during the academic year and up to 40 hours per week during school breaks.
- Requirements: You must reside in California and perform all work within the state.
