About the role#
Turner Construction is seeking a Safety Co-Op or Intern for the Winter 2027 semester in Vancouver. This full-time position offers hands-on experience in safety and loss control, working either on an active construction site or in our office. You will work under the direction of a supervisor to support our safety programs and ensure a secure work environment.
What you'll do#
- Implement the Building L.I.F.E. and project safety programs.
- Identify and report safety violations or unsafe practices.
- Coordinate safety duties for joint health and safety committees, preplanning meetings, and tool box meetings.
- Facilitate training during safety meetings, tool box talks, and new employee orientations.
- Review subcontractor safety programs for compliance and completeness.
- Promote safe work practices in line with company, Federal, and Provincial regulations.
- Administer the drug and alcohol screening program.
- Conduct jobsite and work area inspections while developing summary reports.
- Maintain safety records, including incident investigations, training logs, and chemical inventory sheets.
- Assist with preconstruction meetings and conduct necessary research.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited degree program for Occupational Safety and Health, Engineering, or a related field.
- At least 1 year of completed education or equivalent experience.
- Basic knowledge of safety and environmental principles.
- Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite and collaboration tools.
- Strong organizational skills and high attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Clear verbal and written communication skills.
- A desire to learn about the construction industry and construction management.
- Accountability for your own actions and a proactive approach to tasks.
- Ability to take direction and process information quickly.
Location & details#
- Location: Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
- Term: Winter 2027.
- Modality: On-site.
- Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
- Compensation: CA$20.00 to CA$22.00 per hour, depending on experience and academic year.
- Requirements: Access to reliable transportation is required, and limited travel may be necessary. You must be flexible to work standard business hours and occasional overtime as assigned.
