About the role#
Turner Construction Company is hiring a Finance Intern for the Summer 2027 term in Detroit, Michigan. This is a full-time, paid, on-site position. You will participate in a structured program designed to apply your academic knowledge to real-world business scenarios. You will gain exposure to construction accounting principles, project finance concepts, and financial systems while working alongside experienced professionals.
What you'll do#
- Build foundational knowledge in operational finance, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger, reconciliation, and special services.
- Support data collection, reporting, and analysis efforts.
- Review billing details against client contracts and verify invoice backup for accuracy.
- Assist with validating the coding of project costs and preparing journal entries for budget analysis.
- Support the Shared Services Organization with invoice processing and monitor project cash flow.
- Contribute to process improvement initiatives, including the use of AI technology and automation to standardize workflows.
- Prepare ad hoc analyses and presentations for management.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a 2- or 4-year accredited degree program in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- At least 1 year of completed coursework or equivalent experience.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Willingness to work a standard work week.
- Basic understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically intermediate Excel skills, and familiarity with collaboration tools like Teams and SharePoint.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and clear communication abilities.
- A proactive, self-motivated approach and the ability to work both independently and within a team.
- Interest in learning how finance supports construction operations and an understanding of AI tools is desired.
