Intern - Agronomy

About the role#

This internship provides hands-on experience in the Agronomy and Maintenance department at Gamble Sands. Interns will develop practical skills in turfgrass management, operations supervision, and the daily care of golf course playing surfaces during the summer season.

What you'll do#

• Perform cultural practices including aerification, verticutting, topdressing, rolling, and mowing of greens, tees, and fairways.
• Assist with the calibration, safe handling, and application of liquid and granular fertilizers and plant protectants such as pesticides and fungicides.
• Work alongside irrigation technicians to perform hand watering, utilize soil moisture sensors, and troubleshoot irrigation systems.
• Participate in daily course preparation, including setting up tees and cutting cups.
• Maintain accurate records for maintenance activities and chemical inventory.
• Attend planning meetings with the Director of Agronomy.
• Lead small crews on specific daily tasks or special in-house construction and renovation projects.

What you'll need#

• Enrollment in or recent graduation from a 2-year or 4-year program in turfgrass management, agronomy, horticulture, or a related science field.
• Basic knowledge and operational experience with turf equipment such as mowers and trimmers.
• Familiarity with irrigation systems, including repair and troubleshooting.
• Understanding of chemical and fertilizer application techniques, safety, and calibration.
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to perform physical work in varying weather conditions, including standing, walking, and bending for extended periods, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
• No prior experience is required.

• Location: Brewster, Washington.
• Term: Summer 2026.
• Schedule: 24-40 hours per week.
• Compensation: $17.50-$18.50 per hour.
• Work Modality: On-site.
