About the role#
This is a paid, on-site internship at Tobacco Road for the Summer 2027 season. You will gain hands-on experience in the agronomy and maintenance department, developing skills in turfgrass care and operations supervision.
What you'll do#
- Perform cultural practices including aerification, verticutting, topdressing, and rolling.
- Mow all playing surfaces.
- Assist with the calibration, safe handling, and application of liquid and granular fertilizers and plant protectants.
- Manage irrigation tasks like hand watering, using soil moisture sensors, and troubleshooting systems.
- Participate in daily course preparation and attend planning meetings.
- Maintain records for maintenance activities and chemical inventory.
- Lead small crews on daily tasks or in-house construction and renovation projects.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in or recent graduation from a 2-year or 4-year program in turfgrass management, agronomy, horticulture, or a related science.
- A valid driver's license.
- Basic knowledge and operational experience with turf equipment.
- Familiarity with irrigation systems, including repair and troubleshooting.
- Understanding of fertilizer and chemical application techniques, safety, and calibration.
- Ability to stand, walk, and bend for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- No prior experience is necessary.
