    About the role#

    The Radiation Protection Group at TRIUMF seeks a student to assist with the development of radiation tracking systems and the validation of facility designs. You will gain experience in both hands-on detection hardware and computational simulation. This role offers the chance to contribute to radiation safety and research while working alongside a multidisciplinary team.

    What you'll do#

    • Build geometries to run numerical simulations using radiation codes to evaluate shielding designs for future facilities.
    • Install and commission radiation detectors and monitors, including gamma-ray HPGe spectroscopy equipment.
    • Analyze experimental data from calibration tests using the ROOT C++ framework.
    • Develop and implement mathematical models to fit collected data.
    • Prepare technical reports on findings and simulation results.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment in a Physics, Engineering Physics, or Computing Science program.
    • Intermediate programming skills in C or C++, with proficiency in Python or Java also considered.
    • A basic understanding of electronics.
    • A personal interest in nuclear physics, environmental radiation, or related scientific fields.
    • No professional experience outside of academia is required.

    Location & details#

    • This is a full-time, on-site position located in Vancouver, British Columbia.
    • The term runs from January 4, 2027, to April 30, 2027.
    • You will have the opportunity to complete in-house training to become a designated TRIUMF Nuclear Energy Worker.
