    About the role#

    This position focuses on the characterization of Low Gain Avalanche Detectors (LGADs) using Two-Photon Absorption (TPA) techniques. You will contribute to the PIONEER experiment by helping optimize detector design and operating conditions. This role offers the opportunity to work with advanced detector technologies in a research environment.

    What you'll do#

    • Perform measurements of various LGAD sensors using the TPA setup.
    • Analyze and interpret experimental data and compare results with simulations.
    • Present your findings to the research team.
    • Analyze LGAD data from the M20 muon beamline and data collected at the Paul Scherrer Institute.
    • Test a liquid-xenon purity monitor in a cryostat if interested.

    What you'll need#

    • Enrollment as an undergraduate student in Physics, Computer Science, or Electrical Engineering.
    • A status as a Canadian citizen, Permanent Resident, or a foreign student with a valid Canadian study permit or IEC work permit.
    • An interest in hands-on laboratory work and programming.
    • A foundation in C++ or Python is preferred.

    • Term: Winter 2027 (January 4, 2027 to April 30, 2027).
    • Modality: On-site.
    • Employment: Full-time, paid position.
