About the role#
This is a full-time, paid student position for the Winter 2027 term. The role focuses on maintaining and enhancing internal laboratory applications, including HR, visitor management, and science-related systems. You will work under the guidance of senior programmers to design, implement, and upgrade these tools. This position is based in Vancouver and operates on a hybrid schedule.
What you'll do#
- Design, develop, and implement applications based on functional requirements and design documents.
- Perform system maintenance, upgrades, and integration tasks.
- Manage data transactions and data merges.
- Support existing systems to ensure ongoing laboratory operations.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Computer Science or Computer Engineering program.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical skills, and the ability to work with abstract concepts.
- Proficiency in development technologies including Java, Python, node.js, Javascript, Git/GitLab, Maven, Jira, Glassfish, JSF, Spring, Azure, DevOps, and component libraries.
- Experience with databases such as MS SQL Server, Postgres, and MySQL using JDBC and SQL.
- Experience building and consuming RESTful APIs.
- Basic knowledge of OpenAI API, Power BI, and Copilot for Power BI.
- Familiarity with a scientific research environment and terminology is an asset.
- Initiative and creativity in your approach to technical challenges.

- Term: January 4, 2027, to April 30, 2027, with the possibility of an extension to 8 months.
