About the role#
We are looking for graduate students to join the Computational Chemistry and Materials Science Summer Institute for Summer 2027. This is a remote, full-time internship focused on the development and application of methods in computational materials science, computational chemistry, and related fields. You will gain practical research experience within the Materials Science Division.
What you'll do#
- Work alongside Lab scientists to perform computational simulation data analysis.
- Conduct research in your assigned area under limited direction and supervision.
- Perform technical assignments of a basic degree of complexity.
- Provide advanced technical support to scientists working on research and development projects.
- Present your work virtually through presentations or poster sessions.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment as a continuing graduate student in chemistry, materials sciences, computational chemistry, or a related field.
- A GPA of 3.0 or above.
- Demonstrated academic achievement in material science, computer science, or a related field.
- Experience applying basic scientific principles to solve technical problems.
- Proficiency with personal computers and experience using Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to translate and report scientific data using PC or Macintosh computers.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to present concepts and ideas.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Eligibility to access the Laboratory in compliance with Section 3112 of the National Defense Authorization Act.

- Location: Remote (based in Livermore, California).
- Term: Summer 2027.
- Compensation: $6,752 - $8,201 monthly, based on a step structure determined by your most recent completed academic year.
