About the role#
TRIUMF is hiring a Co-op student to support the DRAGON group during the Winter 2027 term. This position is full-time and based on-site in Vancouver. You will contribute to the development of a new recoil particle-identification detector for the DRAGON recoil separator, which is used in astrophysics research. You will work directly with postdocs and graduate students in the lab and on computer-based tasks.
What you'll do#
- Design a new concept for a recoil particle-identification detector.
- Perform CAD modeling and 3D printing tasks.
- Attach a double-sided silicon strip detector to a microchannel plate and electrostatic mirror assembly.
- Assemble and install the device at the DRAGON focal plane.
- Run tests using radioactive sources to verify functionality and characterize the device response.
- Maintain a written log of your progress throughout the term.
What you'll need#
- 1-2 years of experience in a physics or engineering physics degree program.
- Proficiency in Python or C++.
- Experience with spreadsheets and document processing software.
- Familiarity with Mathematica.
- Enrollment in Physics, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.
