TransCore is seeking a Fiber Optic Splicing Intern for a 6-month temporary position in Tampa, Florida. This program guides interns from foundational field skills to the advanced splicing and testing of complex fiber networks. Depending on business needs and performance, this position may be converted into a full-time role.
What you'll do#
- Assist with splice enclosure preparation.
- Support butt and mid-sheath splicing activities.
- Use OTDRs, light sources, and power meters to verify continuity and splice quality.
- Generate and review bidirectional OTDR reports to diagnose signal loss and validate network performance.
- Learn fiber optic tools, safe handling, installation practices, and basic cable preparation.
- Develop skills working with high-fiber-count cables and complex splice configurations.
What you'll need#
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- Clean driving record with a valid US driver's license.
- Curiosity and a strong desire to learn.
- Attention to detail.
- Ability to meet physical demands, including standing, sitting, reaching, kneeling, and crawling.
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds occasionally.
