About the role#
The Kingston Lab is looking for a student worker to help maintain our marine invertebrate research facility. This position offers practical experience in animal husbandry and the chance to contribute to ongoing research projects. You will work alongside scientists and researchers to ensure the health and care of our animal subjects.
What you'll do#
- Clean and maintain animal tanks and enclosures.
- Feed and monitor animals according to specific dietary requirements and schedules.
- Collect and record data regarding animal health and behavior.
- Set up and maintain experimental equipment.
- Handle waste disposal and follow all safety protocols.
- Assist with the transportation and handling of animals during research procedures.
- Maintain accurate documentation of all care activities.
- Participate in training sessions to build your knowledge of husbandry practices.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a student at the University of Tulsa.
- An interest in marine biology, animal husbandry, or related fields.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication skills for collaborating with the research team.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to lift and move equipment.
- Willingness to learn new procedures and follow instructions with minimal supervision.
- Basic knowledge of marine invertebrates and their care is preferred.
