About the role#
This is a student position at McFarlin Library. You will support library operations and assist visitors in a professional, service-oriented environment. This role requires adherence to a pre-agreed schedule established at the start of each semester, with morning or afternoon availability required.
What you'll do#
- Provide customer service to library visitors in person, online, and over the phone.
- Complete routine library tasks including shelving, checking items in and out, and book wrapping.
- Assist library staff with special projects such as inventory and material shifting.
- Maintain strict confidentiality in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
- Perform repetitive tasks as needed to maintain library organization.
What you'll need#
- Effective communication skills for interacting with staff, students, and patrons.
- Basic computer literacy, specifically with Microsoft 360 and Adobe Acrobat.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to sit and stand for extended periods.
- Preferred: Familiarity with the McFarlin building, the library website, searching for materials, and Library of Congress classifications.
