About the role#
This student position at McFarlin Library involves supporting library operations and assisting patrons. Students are expected to maintain a consistent, pre-agreed schedule throughout the semester, with availability during morning or afternoon hours. Note that library hours fluctuate during finals and breaks.
What you'll do#
- Provide customer service to library visitors in-person, online, and over the phone.
- Complete essential library tasks, including shelving items and processing check-ins and check-outs.
- Assist library staff with projects such as inventory management and book shifting.
- Adhere to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) regulations.
What you'll need#
- Effective communication skills for interacting with staff, students, and patrons.
- Basic computer literacy, specifically with Microsoft 360 and Adobe Acrobat.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to sit and stand for extended periods.
- Willingness to perform routine tasks.
- Preferred: Familiarity with the McFarlin building, the library website, searching for materials, and Library of Congress classifications.
