About the role#
Joliet Junior College is looking for a student lab assistant to support the Natural Sciences and Physical Education department. This part-time role involves preparing materials for biology and chemistry courses and maintaining the laboratory environment. You will work under the supervision of the Biology Lab Supervisor.
What you'll do#
- Prepare laboratory materials and chemical solutions for biology and chemistry courses.
- Clean and maintain laboratory equipment, classrooms, and supplies.
- Operate the autoclave to prepare media for microbiology labs.
- Care for living specimens, including aquariums, plants, lab animals, and cadavers.
- Handle and dispose of hazardous materials according to safety policies.
- Work 10 to 20 hours per week during the fall and spring semesters.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment at Joliet Junior College for at least 6 credit hours.
- A GPA of 2.0 or higher.
- Previous coursework in biology or chemistry.
- Ability to communicate effectively and build cooperative working relationships.
- Proficiency in English and Spanish is preferred, as is demonstrated multicultural competence.
