About the role#
The Communications & Social Media Assistant supports the college by creating digital content for web and social platforms. You will work with the Communications Coordinator to draft, schedule, and publish content. This role offers hands-on experience in higher education marketing. You will collaborate with faculty, staff, and students to gather information and support communication goals. All content requires review and approval from the Communications Coordinator before it goes live.
What you'll do#
- Create and draft content for Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
- Write social media captions and posts.
- Design graphics using approved templates and tools.
- Capture and edit short-form video for campaigns, events, and student stories.
- Manage and schedule content through the college platform.
- Draft web stories for the university website.
- Attend campus events to gather photos and video content.
- Monitor content performance to identify engagement opportunities.
What you'll need#
- Current student status with eligibility for Federal Work Study.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Familiarity with major social media platforms and current trends.
- Basic experience with graphic design or video editing software.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate with staff.
- Preferred majors include Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Graphic Design, Media Studies, or English.
