About the role#
The Seattle Times offers a 10-week paid summer internship for students pursuing a career in journalism. You will work alongside our staff on real-world assignments for our newspaper and website.
What you'll do#
- Provide photo coverage for news, features, business, and sports assignments throughout the Puget Sound area and Washington state.
- Generate your own photo and story ideas.
- Meet deadlines set by photo editors.
- Participate in regular feedback conversations with your supervisor and editors.
- Attend newsroom trainings and events.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a Sophomore, Junior, Senior, or graduate student at a four-year university.
- A major in journalism or a clear commitment to print or online journalism.
- Proficiency with social media and digital tools.
- Previous internship experience at other news organizations is strongly preferred.
- A personal vehicle available for the duration of the internship.
- Your own photo equipment.
- A commitment to diversity and inclusive newsrooms.

- This is an on-site role based in Seattle, Washington.
- The internship takes place during the Summer of 2027.
- This is a full-time, paid position.
