About the role#
The Cloud Engineering team at The Options Clearing Corporation manages security guardrails, governance controls, and cost optimization across our cloud platforms. As a year-round intern, you will contribute to real backlog items and take ownership of monitoring and remediation tools. This program runs from January through December, with a maximum of 1,000 hours. You will work up to 20 hours per week during the school year and up to 40 hours per week during the summer.
What you'll do#
- Build and enhance cloud security guardrails.
- Develop Open Policy Agent (OPA) policies for security checks and standards.
- Create Financial Operations dashboards and reports.
- Write automation to clean up resources and provide alerts for cloud cost avoidance.
- Work alongside the team to maintain and improve platform engineering tools.
What you'll need#
- Status as a rising senior or second-year graduate student, graduating in December 2027 or May/August 2028.
- Pursuing a degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- Coursework or project experience with cloud platforms.
- Exposure to scripting and basic security or cost management concepts.
- Familiarity with Terraform, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), or policy-as-code tools is a plus.
- Experience with Claude code is beneficial.
- Strong analytical skills and comfort working with ambiguity.
- Interest in pursuing a career in cloud security or FinOps.
Location & details#
- This role is based in Chicago, Illinois.
- The position operates under a hybrid work model, requiring at least 3 days per week in the office. Tuesday and Wednesday are mandatory anchor days.
- This is a paid, part-time internship.
