About the role#
The AI Research & Engineering (AIRE) team at OCC builds and governs AI solutions across the organization. As an intern, you will join this team to prototype and evaluate agentic AI systems. You will work directly with engineers to automate and improve functional areas within our financial infrastructure. This is a year-round internship running from January 2027 through December 2027, with a maximum of 1,000 hours.
What you'll do#
- Build and iterate on AI agent workflows for specific functional areas.
- Integrate agentic solutions with internal data sources and APIs.
- Design test cases and evaluation frameworks to measure the accuracy, reliability, and safety of AI agents.
- Partner with AI Governance and Risk Management teams to navigate compliance and risk requirements.
- Document agent architectures, prompt designs, and lessons learned to support team playbooks.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to gather requirements and validate that solutions address real operational needs.
What you'll need#
- Status as a rising senior or second-year graduate student, graduating in December 2027, May 2028, or August 2028.
- Strong programming skills in Python, SQL, Java, C++, or R.
- Coursework or project experience in machine learning, AI, or data science.
- Exposure to frameworks like PyTorch, TensorFlow, or Scikit-learn.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Experience with data pipelines or engineering tools like Spark or Databricks.
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- A strong academic record, with a preferred GPA of 3.5 or higher.
- Interest in financial services, market infrastructure, or regulated industries.
- Familiarity with Agile practices, including version control and code reviews.
Location & details#
- Location: Chicago, Illinois.
- Modality: Hybrid. Employees are expected to work from the office at least 3 days per week, with Tuesday and Wednesday as anchor days.
- Term: January 2027 through December 2027.
- Schedule: Up to 20 hours per week during the school year and up to 40 hours per week during the summer.
- Compensation: This is a paid internship.
