About the role#
As a Packaging Engineering Intern at The J.M. Smucker Co., you will work within our packaging department to support data-based decision making. You will use our packaging lab to perform various test methods and contribute to our sustainability goals by identifying source and cost reduction opportunities. This role involves collaborating with internal partners and external suppliers to improve packaging structures and evaluate their impact on production line efficiency.
What you'll do#
- Perform packaging test methods including vibration, drop, side impact, compression, tensile, and burst tests.
- Maintain technical documentation such as technical drawings, assembly instructions, How2Recycle database entries, and pallet patterns.
- Support material evaluation activities through data collection and statistical analysis for rigid containers, closures, flexible films, cartons, and corrugated materials.
- Collaborate with external suppliers to identify and implement structure improvements.
- Assist with production line assessments of alternative packaging solutions.
What you'll need#
- Sophomore, Junior, or Senior standing in a degree program.
- Educational experience in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Industrial Engineering.
- Strong time-management, communication, and teamwork skills.

- Location: Orrville, Ohio.
- Modality: Hybrid (60% in-office expectation).
- Term: Available for Winter, Spring, Summer, or Fall 2027 sessions.
- Employment type: Full-time, paid internship.
